The relationship we have with our hair

is unique because it is both intensely personal and shared with the world. The way we wear our hair is one of many ways that we express ourselves to the the people around us and can be indicative of so many parts of our personality like style, sexuality and even spirituality. When we have a “good hair day”, we walk into any room with the confidence that the way the world is perceiving us is the same way that we feel inside. For some, having a good hair day is straight up overwhelming because there is just so much to consider. This guide will help you build a personalized hair regimen that will allow you to love your hair every day. The truth is, there is no one size fits all plan to luscious locks. But understanding the ins and outs of haircare can help you to pamper your hair in a meaningful way that will absolutely translate into your day to day routine.

What Is Your Hair Type?

In order to develop a personalized hair plan, we have to get into the nitty gritty details of your hair. At the heart of hair maintenance, is your hair type. Let’s first address the most obvious; your hair pattern or texture. The simplest way to figure this out, is to let your hair dry naturally. If your hair drys with a looping pattern, your hair is curly. If it drys with a zig zag pattern, your hair is coily. If it drys without any bend, your hair is straight. If it has a slight bend or s pattern, then it would be considered wavy. Some people even have more than one texture in different areas of their head, this means that you go with what you see the most of in your hair.

Once you know your hair type, we need to determine the thickness of your hair. Hold an individual strand in your hand, if you can feel it, your hair is coarse if you can’t your hair is fine. Everything in between would be considered medium.

Good Hair Starts in the Shower!

Good hair starts with a healthy scalp, and a healthy scalp starts in the shower. When selecting the right products for you, we must consider texture & the state of your scalp! If your scalp tends to be on the dry side, you may be prone to flaking, and breakage is probably very real to you! In this case, moisture is your best friend! Our favorite is the Bumble & Bumble Hairdressers Invisible Oil, it’s full of essential oils and smells amazing! If you feel like skipping a wash day makes your hair flat and greasy, you probably have an oily scalp. The name of the game in this case is “moisture balance”, because we have to avoid buildup and dandruff! For you, we recommend the Oligo Moisture Balance Shampoo and Conditioner.

My personal goal as a stylist is to provide my clients with knowledge to take all the complexities of hair away. My dream is that all of my clients leave my chair with the confidence that they can easily style their hair everyday.
