What is Balayage?

Balayage, or painting by hand, is a technique most often used when creating soft, natural “lived in” looks. Hair painting is also a technique used, applying either lightener or color and painting on the surface of the hair- resulting in soft, natural color.

When looking at inspiration photos, if the hair you are attracted to looks natural yet sun kissed, balayage is most likely the service to book!

Balayage clients are usually able to have less frequent visits to the salon, as this is an intentional low-maintenance color application. Balayage and hair painting are often added to other color services in order to achieve the desired look.

This technique is often used to create a gradual transition from dark to light, or from one color to another. The result is a soft, natural-looking color that easy to maintain. Balayage is a great option for those who want to add some color to their hair without the commitment of a full color.

Both balayage and hair painting can be performed as a freehand technique, meaning the color is applied directly to the hair without the use of foils or other tools. This allows the stylist to create a more natural look, as the color is blended into the hair in a more organic way. The stylist will use a brush or a comb to apply the color, and will usually start at the mid-lengths and ends of the hair and work their way up.

Balayage is a great option for those who want to add dimension to their hair without having to worry about the upkeep of highlights or lowlights.

What is foilyage?

Foilyage is a hybrid of highlights and balayage used together in one technique. The pickup of hair to be placed in a foil (highlights) is then pulled tightly and often back combed (not always though!) then lightener is painted onto the hair so that the transition is very soft and lived in. This usually creates more dimension than traditional balayage and a softer grow-out, as opposed to traditional highlights.

Our color services are always customized to each individual, depending on the decided “hair plan” for each client, color services often vary to reach desired looks!
