Nature inspires our Classic Color Approach

Classic color services are techniques we use to maintain or enhance our clients natural hair color.

Base color applications are a standard, yet very important service we offer, most often for gray coverage. Our stylists are masters at providing the perfect coverage and level, achieving seamless continuity while avoiding banding and skin staining. We believe in the power of dimension, even with a standard base color. Signature pieces are one of our signature color specialities, another technique for complete customization.

Highlights and Babylights are broken down into three patterns for easy scheduling: t- section, half head or a full head highlights. Each highlight pattern has its own time for the service and amount of foils used. A t- section is the least amount of foils used, placed around the face and along the part line. A half head is the most commonly booked service for highlights because it covers everything except the nape area. This helps to keep fragile hair healthy. Foils are placed around the face, along the sides, above the ears and covering the top so that you can part your hair in any way and still have blonde coverage. Lastly, the full head covers everything the half covers and then continues to cover the nape, as well.

What is the difference between highlights and baby lights?

Highlights are organized pickups of hair that are neatly placed into a foil and covered with lightener to make lighter. A babylight indicates the amount of hair in each foil is a very fine pickup, and the foils are a lot closer together so that more of the hair is lightened. This can take twice as long as a regular highlight service and is for a very specific look, at times necessary for a color correction.

Glazing and toning: this color service is for anyone with hair! If haircuts are the only service you book consider adding a glaze treatment next visit! You can receive a glaze and not change the color or tone of your hair by using a clear glaze or “toner”- this will enhance your overall shine and complement your haircut. Often the glazing service will add a tonal shift by depositing color. This final color step is often after a base color and or highlighting service and will enhance, neutralize or cool out warmth in the hair. Do toners really make a difference? Absolutely! In addition to lending complete control of hair tone, here are a few of the additional benefits of a toner: strengthen your hair, help with heat protection with hot tools, smooths cuticle, restores the hairs ph balance, and seals in color.

I find that helping our stylists master classic color techniques is one of the most profound tools I can provide. When a hair artist has a complete understanding and mastery of the basic foundations, true creativity can come to life. Painting light and shadow within the canvas of hair: This one of the many things I love to do!
